Rebuild Connection, Deepen Intimacy, and Strengthen Your Relationship

You’ve been trying to make it work, but it feels like everything leads to another argument—or another long silence. You’re tired of feeling like the emotional weight of the relationship is falling on your shoulders. Maybe you’re stuck in the same cycle of blame, defensiveness, and shutdown, or avoiding the real conversations altogether because it feels too risky to go there. The emotional and physical connection you once had feels far away, and you’re not sure how to reach each other anymore. You want more than survival mode. You want to feel like partners again.

If that sounds familiar, you’re not alone—and you don’t have to figure it out alone, either.

I’m Marina Stanton, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and AASECT-certified sex therapist offering secure, HIPAA-compliant online therapy for couples across Washington state. I help couples rebuild emotional connection, communicate more effectively, and develop a sexual relationship that feels safe, exciting, and aligned with their values.

Meet Your Therapist: Online Marriage Counselor & Sex Therapist for Washington Couples

Hi! I’m Marina Stanton. I became a therapist because I know what it feels like to be in a relationship that’s not working—and not know how to fix it. Even after reading all the marriage books and doing “everything right,” I found myself unprepared for the realities of long-term partnership and intimacy. That personal journey fuels my passion for helping others find real, lasting connection—emotionally, sexually, and relationally.

I’m an LMFT and an AASECT-certified sex therapist (a distinction that requires rigorous training and supervision). Unlike most therapists, I’m equipped to help you navigate both your relational dynamics and your sexual concerns without shame, discomfort, or avoidance.

I’m known for using analogies, humor, and visuals to simplify complex topics. I believe in doing deep work, but I also believe therapy should feel engaging and relevant—not like just venting. I’ll help you explore how your past experiences influence your current behaviors, and how to break the patterns that are keeping you stuck.

In addition to working with couples across Washington, I’m licensed in Colorado, Texas, and Utah, and see clients in person at my Centennial, CO office.

What Makes My Approach to Marriage Counseling and Sex Therapy Unique

As both a licensed couples therapist and a certified sex therapist, I bring expertise in emotional and sexual connection into every session. These two areas are deeply interconnected, and addressing one without the other often leaves couples stuck. That’s why I help you explore how the same patterns that show up in your bedroom—withdrawal, pressure, avoidance, resentment—often echo in your day-to-day interactions, and vice versa.

I use the Developmental Model of couples therapy, which emphasizes emotional maturity, accountability, and differentiation (the ability to stay connected while still being fully yourself). I believe that neither partner is “the problem.” Instead, I focus on the way you interact—because that’s where lasting change happens.

My style is direct, compassionate, and collaborative. I’ll challenge you when needed, celebrate your growth, and equip you with actionable tools you can start using right away. I also assign meaningful homework between sessions to help you apply what we talk about and keep building momentum.

FAQs | Marriage Counseling Washington & Sex Therapy in Washington

  • I work with couples and individuals throughout Washington—especially those seeking support around sex, intimacy, and relationship concerns. Many of my clients are in long-term partnerships or marriages and are motivated to grow—not just “fix” a problem.

I have particular expertise working with faith-based clients, including those from Christian or religiously conservative backgrounds. If you grew up with restrictive or confusing messages about sex, it’s common to carry guilt, shame, or uncertainty into adulthood and marriage. In our work together, you’ll have the opportunity to honor your values while reexamining the parts of your sexual story that are no longer serving you.

  • Marriage counseling typically focuses on the emotional and relational aspects of your partnership—like communication, conflict, and trust. Sex therapy specifically addresses challenges related to desire, arousal, pleasure, or sexual dysfunction. Because I’m trained in both, I don’t separate the two unnecessarily. In my experience, what’s happening sexually is often a reflection of what’s happening emotionally—and vice versa. I can help you understand and shift the full picture.

  • Yes—and you're not alone. Most couples I work with say they don’t feel heard or understood. They’re stuck in repetitive arguments or feel like they’re walking on eggshells. Often, each person feels like their needs aren’t being met but doesn’t know how to express those needs in a way their partner can hear. I help you break these cycles by teaching more effective ways to communicate—ways that help you stay honest without being hurtful, stay open without losing yourself, and actually feel seen by your partner.

  • This is one of the most common reasons couples come to sex therapy—and no, it doesn’t mean anything is “wrong” with either of you. I help couples understand the complex factors that influence desire and guide you in creating a sexual relationship that feels good and authentic to both of you.

  • That’s incredibly common. Many people worry therapy will be about blaming one partner or labeling someone as “the problem.” That’s not how I work. I focus on the dynamics between you—not assigning blame to either of you. Often, when hesitant partners learn that I’m not here to pick sides, but to help you both feel understood and supported, they feel more open to the process.

  • No. I’m based in Colorado, I offer online sex therapy for individuals and couples in Washington state, using a secure, HIPAA-compliant video platform.

This virtual format allows you to access high-quality therapy from the comfort of your home or office—no commute, traffic, or parking hassles. And for many of my Washington based clients, that’s a huge benefit.

In fact, I’ve found that many couples actually prefer online therapy. It helps them feel more at ease, makes difficult conversations feel a little less intimidating, and allows for consistent scheduling even during busy seasons. So while you don’t need to live near my office, you can still receive specialized, compassionate, and effective care tailored to your relational and sexual goals.

You are always welcome to schedule with me at my Centennial, CO office if you happen to be in the area!

  • A good marriage counselor in Washington should be licensed, experienced in couples therapy, and skilled at helping partners navigate everything from everyday conflict to more complex intimacy issues. Look for someone whose approach feels direct yet compassionate, and who understands how to work with both emotional and sexual connection.
