Rebuild Connection, Deepen Intimacy, and Strengthen Your Relationship
You’re navigating some really big shifts—maybe in your faith, your values, or how you understand intimacy and connection. And those changes are starting to affect your relationship. It might feel like you and your partner are on different pages about the things that matter most. Conversations about sex, parenting, or belief feel loaded or impossible. You might be carrying guilt, fear, or shame, especially if you’ve never had a safe space to talk openly about your needs. The distance between you keeps growing, and you’re starting to wonder how long you can keep pretending everything’s fine.
Marriage and long-term relationships aren’t always easy. Over time, it’s common for couples to drift apart, lose their spark, or get stuck in cycles of conflict, avoidance, or resentment.
You don’t have to do it alone. As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) and AASECT-certified sex therapist, I specialize in helping Utah couples rebuild emotional closeness and develop a fulfilling, connected sexual relationship—without abandoning your values or pretending everything’s fine when it isn’t.
Meet Your Therapist: A Certified Sex Therapist Serving Utah Couples
Hi, I’m Marina Stanton. I’m a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and an AASECT-certified sex therapist serving couples across Utah through online therapy.
I got into this work because I don’t want people to struggle in their sexual relationships the way I did. I entered marriage hopeful and committed—but quickly realized how unprepared I was. I’ve spent years studying relationships, sexuality, and systems so I can offer the kind of support I wish I’d had.
My brain works in metaphors and visuals, and I love making complex or intimidating topics feel understandable and approachable. I’ll help you make connections between your past and your present, toggle between what’s happening in and out of the bedroom, and get clear on how to show up more honestly and openly with your partner.
I’m not just here to validate and listen—I’m here to challenge, clarify, and help you grow. If you’re motivated to do the work, I’ll be with you every step of the way.
In addition to Utah, I’m also licensed in Texas, Colorado, and Washington, and I offer in-person sessions in my Centennial, Colorado office if you ever find yourself nearby.

Online Couples Counseling & Sex Therapy for Utah Couples—No Commute Required
You don’t need to live in a big city to access high-quality couples counseling. I work with clients throughout the entire state of Utah—from Salt Lake City to St. George, Provo to Logan, and everywhere in between.
Online therapy makes it easier to prioritize your relationship. Many of my clients actually prefer online sessions to in-person therapy. Meeting from home, your office, or even your (parked car!) allows couples to feel more relaxed, speak more freely, and maintain consistency even with hectic schedules.
And just because you start with online therapy doesn’t mean you’re locked in. If you’re ever in Colorado, you’re welcome to schedule an in-person session at my Centennial office.
Why Couples Counseling & Sex Therapy Is Different With Me
Not all therapists are trained to work with couples—and even fewer are equipped to integrate sexual concerns in a meaningful, respectful way.
As a specialist, not a generalist, I bring both relationship and sexuality expertise into the therapy room. My approach is grounded in the Developmental Model, which focuses on emotional maturity, self-awareness, and differentiation—the ability to stay connected without losing yourself or needing your partner to change.
Because I’m trained in both couples counseling and sex therapy, I can seamlessly toggle between what’s happening emotionally and what’s happening sexually. Very often, the same patterns that show up in your sex life are showing up in your emotional relationship—and vice versa. I don’t see either of you as “the problem.” Instead, I help you recognize and change the negative interaction cycles that keep you stuck. This perspective often puts hesitant partners at ease—especially those worried they’ll be blamed or singled out in therapy. Understanding those patterns as a whole allows us to work more efficiently and effectively.
I also assign homework between sessions, so you can continue your growth and integration beyond our weekly conversations. Therapy isn’t just about insight—it’s about action, and I’m here to help you translate the “aha moments” into real, lasting change.

FAQs | Couples Counseling Utah & Sex Therapy in Utah
-
Couples counseling here is a supportive, collaborative space where we explore your relationship’s unique dynamics. Whether you're dealing with communication struggles, desire differences, or rebuilding trust, I guide you through tools and insights that lead to real, lasting change. It’s not about blame but growth—helping you reconnect and create a partnership that feels alive and meaningful.
-
Couples counseling typically focuses on communication, conflict resolution, and emotional connection. Sex therapy addresses sexual concerns specifically—but often overlaps with relationship dynamics. Because I’m trained in both, I can move fluidly between the two. The patterns that show up in your sex life often mirror what’s happening emotionally—and vice versa. My ability to toggle back and forth helps us uncover the full picture and make sustainable changes.
This virtual format allows you to access high-quality therapy from the comfort of your home or office—no commute, traffic, or parking hassles. And for many of my Dallas clients, that’s a huge benefit.
In fact, I’ve found that many couples actually prefer online therapy. It helps them feel more at ease, makes difficult conversations feel a little less intimidating, and allows for consistent scheduling even during busy seasons. So while you don’t need to live near my office, you can still receive specialized, compassionate, and effective care tailored to your relational and sexual goals.
-
You're not alone—many people find discussing sex uncomfortable at first. I create a judgment-free, respectful environment where we take things at your pace. I use clear, real-life language and metaphors to break down complex topics, so it feels natural, not clinical. Think of it as a conversation with someone who truly gets it and knows how to guide you without awkwardness.
-
Absolutely! Counseling isn’t only for emergencies. Many couples come because they want to deepen their connection, improve communication, or explore new ways to enjoy intimacy before problems arise. Investing in your relationship early can prevent bigger issues down the road and make your partnership more fulfilling overall.
-
That’s completely normal—and something I work with often. My approach is never about blaming or labeling one partner as “the problem.” Instead, we look at the interaction patterns between you, because those patterns—not either of you individually—are usually what's causing the pain. Many hesitant partners appreciate knowing that therapy isn’t about being told they’re “bad,” but about exploring how the two of you are relating and what can shift.
-
I blend my expertise as an LMFT with AASECT-certified sex therapy and a trauma-informed, developmental framework. That means I focus on emotional safety, growth, and the subtle ways your past influences your present relationship patterns. I use vivid metaphors and visuals to make even tough concepts clear and actionable, all while honoring your values and beliefs.
